In the last months, we have tried out several email marketing tools. Beehiiv has really impressed us. Many creators are currently excited about the newsletter platform.
Beehiiv* is still a very young tool, but it already offers many features known from competitors. In this article we will explain everything you need to know about Beehiiv.

What is Beehiiv?
Beehiiv is a newsletter platform founded in 2021 by Benjamin Hargett, Jacob Hurd, and Tyler Denk. The platform aims to help creators build a large audience and generate income through a newsletter.
The concept of Beehiiv is straightforward. You have a website where you publish your posts. At the same time, you can also send these posts directly to your subscribers. Very handy!
But other newsletter platforms like Steady* or Substack can do that too. So what makes Beehiiv special?

What features does Beehiiv offer?
Once you sign up for Beehiiv, you will be redirected to the dashboard. There, you can see your subscriber statistics and the performance of your email campaign.
Here’s what it looks like for our newsletter.
You see the active subscribers. In February, we imported our email list to Beehiiv. That works effortlessly and only takes a few minutes. Additionally, you see the average open and click rate.
We use this overview to quickly understand the performance of our newsletter.
Now, let’s look at how you can write a post. For this, you click on “Start writing” and the content editor opens. In the example below, you see what the editor looks like.
You can publish posts directly on your Beehiiv website, send them as a newsletter only, or do both. You can set this in the Delivery settings.
From our perspective, Beehiiv is very suitable for starting an online business. Even in the free version, you already have access to the most important features.
However, one thing bothers us. In the free version, you do not have the option to set up a custom domain. For your own online presence, a custom domain is highly recommended.
We are currently also using only the free version of Beehiiv, so we cannot set a custom domain either.

Earn Money with a Beehiiv Newsletter
Beehiiv Partner Program
The Beehiiv Partner Program is probably the most lucrative way to make money online right now. We have also signed up for the Partner Program. Some creators are already earning several thousand dollars a month with this program.
It is one of the best ways to make money online with Beehiiv. First, you need to register as a Beehiiv Partner*. After that, you can promote Beehiiv. If you refer a paying customer to Beehiiv, you get a 50% commission for the first year.
Beehiiv sends you the commissions via PayPal every month. That is the only way to get the commissions. So, you need a PayPal account.
Paid Subscriptions
You can also offer paid subscriptions and generate recurring revenue. Beehiiv does not charge a fee. There is only a processing fee for Stripe. Beehiiv uses Stripe as the payment provider for paid subscriptions.
Boosts
With Boosts, you can create an additional source of income. If you want to quickly grow your email list, Beehiiv offers you the chance to promote your newsletter among thousands of qualified newsletters. According to the Beehiiv website, an active subscriber costs on average $1.63.
If you want to monetize your newsletter, you can apply for Boosts. Then, you can boost other newsletters and get paid for every subscriber you bring in.
There is another type of Boost called “Earn per send”. You can also feature newsletters from other creators in your newsletter. Some creators pay several thousand dollars for this. So, you could earn several thousand dollars with just one post.
Ad Network
Through the Ad Network, you can connect as a creator with premium brands and feature them in your newsletter. You will get paid for this.
To join the Ad Network, you need at least 1,000 subscribers. Once you have joined the Ad Network, you will receive incoming advertising opportunities from Beehiiv.
AI Features
Since ChatGPT was released, more and more companies are integrating AI features into their tools. AI can boost your productivity if you use it correctly. In a Beehiiv newsletter, you have two AI features, the AI Writer and AI Imager. However, the AI features are only available from the Scale plan. We have tested both features for you.
AI Writer
With the AI Writer, you can generate texts. In our example, we entered the following input prompt.
Write me a text about the current Bitcoin developments.
The AI has generated a brief text on the current Bitcoin developments for us. This feature is well suited for creating an initial draft. However, it is important that you thoroughly check the generated text again. AI applications can also provide false information, please always be aware of that.
AI Imager
You can use the AI Imager to generate images. This feature is useful, for example, when you need an image to match your text. In our example, we entered the following prompt.
Create an image with a large Bitcoin logo centered against a white background.
As a result, the AI-generated an image for us with the Bitcoin logo.
Prices at Beehiiv
You have four plans to pick from. The prices vary depending on the range of features and the number of email subscribers.
Launch Plan
This plan is free and includes the essential features needed to set up a newsletter. You can use this plan up to 2,500 subscribers, after which you must switch to a higher plan. A useful feature of this plan is that you can recommend other newsletters, and others can recommend you. Through recommendations, your newsletter grows faster!
Grow Plan
For this plan, you currently have to pay $42 per month. You can use this plan up to 10,000 subscribers. Additionally, you can set up your own domain and offer paid subscriptions.
Scale Plan
The Scale Plan costs $84 per month. With this plan, you can grow up to 100,000 subscribers. Additionally, you can use features like the Ad-Network and Boosts to generate revenue.
Enterprise Plan
For over 100,000 subscribers, it is time to get in touch with Beehiiv’s sales team. Then, you have a newsletter powerhouse.
